Signal processing method histogram generation, and corresponding device and use
Some applications, like time correlated single photon counting or time of arrival, among others, need digital complex processing that quickly escalates when we add more detectors. Our solution provides an analogue processing that reduces power consumption and complexity. This solution has been proven in here DOI:10.1016/j.bios.2020.112074, it is a biomed application but it can be useful in other applications
Fluorescence life time imaging (FLIM) often uses single-photon avalanche diodes (SPADs) as detectors. Each detector measures the time of arrival of fluorescent photons. Usually, signal processing is done with digital electronics. However, when using a large number of SPADs (e.g. camera of 192 x 128 SPAD pixels), digital processing becomes complex and power hungry. We designed an analogue approach to solve this, it does the processing with much less power than the digital approach, which permits to design larger cameras and to take advantage of having low power consumption, like placing our electronics in battery powered devices (enabling remote sensing). This is one example of what we do, however there are other applications where it is needed to do similar measurements, like in LIDAR
FLIM, time correlated single photon counting, LIDAR, time of arrival
Much less power consumption that allows us to increase the number of detectors and allows us to use our application in remote settings, as it can work in battery powered devices
