PETGEM

Subsurface exploration tools for geo-resources

Institution:

Institution

Research Group:

Wave Phenomena

Researcher/s:

Octavio Castillo

Description:

PETGEM couples high-order edge finite elements with distributed MPI/PETSc to solve Maxwell’s equations over billion-cell models. That capability underpins high-fidelity “digital twins” of the subsurface and aligns strongly with the trend that places large-scale computational engineering at the heart of product and asset life-cycles.

PETGEM transforms costly seismic or drilling campaigns into repeatable, HPC-driven electromagnetic studies that cut exploration risk, accelerate time-to-resource and enable continuous reservoir monitoring -without the capital expense of proprietary EM software.

Value Proposition:

Fast 3D EM twin reduces subsurface exploration and monitoring uncertainty

Aplication areas:

Offshore hydrocarbon CSEM, onshore mineral exploration, geothermal prospecting, time-lapse CO2 storage monitoring, deep geothermal fracture imaging, groundwater deposits characterization, power-cable burial assessment.

Target market:

Oil-&-gas majors; Geothermal developers; Carbon-capture operators; Mineral-exploration service companies; National labs focused on energy research and water research.

Technology Readiness Level (1-9): 4
